Biography
The academic ugly duckling, Linda left school without any qualifications but aged 27 she discovered that she was dyslexic and felt as though a second chance at education was being offered. Linda employed focused determination and innovative strategies to reach her present level, i.e. student of a Master’s Degree in Education (with Inclusion).
As a parent to five children, moving around Scotland Linda experienced the variety of approaches between and within different local education authorities. This was most keenly experienced since of her five children, four are dyslexic and a fifth child has Tourette Syndrome and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. Linda has worked in partnership with a vast plethora of professionals. She has also provided a total of five years full-time home education to benefit three of her children. Of her four children with dyslexia one is an electronic / avionic engineer with the RAF (link to his story), one is a maths and chemistry teacher (link to her story), one has successfully completed first year university courses English literature, Film and Theatre and set to study for joint honours (2008), and one has successfully completed units related to Beauty Therapy and is considering new horizons. Her youngest child loves animation, computers and fiction.

“It is as a student with dyslexia, a dyslexic adult in several workplaces, as a parent to five wonderful children with additional support needs, as an educator to individuals from nursery to retirement age, as trainer of educators and as a specialist working with dyslexia on a daily basis that I aim to provide my clients a very high value service.”
Experience of Training and Assessing
Linda has worked closely with schools, businesses and individuals with dyslexia for over 15yrs and provides specialist support. During this time she has been employed in the following roles:
- Lecturer in Early Education
- Lecturer in Psychology
- Assessing Adults with Dyslexia
- Training people to work with individuals with dyslexia.
Voluntary Work Background
Linda’s voluntary work includes being a council member and director of Dyslexia Scotland and has founded three branches of Dyslexia Scotland (National Charity) including Dyslexia Lanarkshire for which she is vice-chair.

“Our mission is to encourage compassion and kindness towards all members of the dyslexia ‘eco-system’ i.e. educators, parents and people with dyslexia, and to empower each to discover their true and unique potential.”
Following a request to speak to Learning Support Teachers about Partnership with Parents Linda received the following feedback:
