 The Concept

Dynamic Dyslexia was chosen to reflect three concepts that underlie the ethos of the service:

  • Dyslexia often involves strong right hemisphere ability and so individuals with dyslexia can be naturally dynamic.
  • Dyslexia is different in different individuals and the pattern meets ever changing environments where people, given the best factors, people can dynamically evolve.
  • Understanding dyslexia involves understanding the dynamic array of challenges and opportunities available to individuals as a result of their positive difference.

An ugly duckling or a beautiful swanBiography

The academic ugly duckling, Linda left school without any qualifications but aged 27 she discovered that she was dyslexic and felt as though a second chance at education was being offered. Linda employed focused determination and innovative strategies to reach her present level, i.e. student of a Master’s Degree in Education (with Inclusion).

As a parent Linda has provided education at home for many of her family.to five children, moving around Scotland Linda experienced the variety of approaches between and within different local education authorities. This was most keenly experienced since of her five children, four are dyslexic and a fifth child has Tourette Syndrome and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. Linda has worked in partnership with a vast plethora of professionals. She has also provided a total of five years full-time home education to benefit three of her children. Of her four children with dyslexia one is an electronic / avionic engineer with the RAF (link to his story), one is a maths and chemistry teacher (link to her story), one has successfully completed first year university courses English literature, Film and Theatre and set to study for joint honours (2008), and one has successfully completed units related to Beauty Therapy and is considering new horizons. Her youngest child loves animation, computers and fiction.
